Health Ministry

The Health Ministry Mission is to promote wellness of mind, body and spirit through education and the sharing of health resources with the church community. Our programs include:

1. We have medical equipment available to be borrowed by anyone in our church of community. The items available are: wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches and commodes. If you would like to borrow equipment please contact the church office, (916) 967-4784.

2. Have your blood pressure tested the last Sunday of each month between services in the Fireside Room. Look for signs on the quad for directions.

3. Did you know there are eight first aid kits on our campus? There are signs posted near each kit.

4. The Health Ministry Team has provided two AEDs (automatic external defibrillators) in case of a cardiac emergency. One is located in the sanctuary near the bride’s room and the other is in the Family Life Center near the coffee counter.

5. AED/CPR classes are offered throughout the year. Watch for notices in the bulletin. These classes have a nominal cost and may help save a life. Everyone is welcome.

6. Check in the library for health related books recently purchased. There are several on general health, arthritis, diabetes and heart failure. These books are available to all and are a great resource.

7. Watch for the Health Ministry table on the quad the third Sunday of each month. There is always information available and professionals there to answer questions.

8. We recycle eyeglasses and hearing aids, via Lions in Sight, to third world countries. Eyeglasses are examined, prescription determined and matched with the recipient’s prescription. Please, bring your used eyeglasses to the church office, or to the Congregational Care table in Caffé Presse.

Check out our bulletin board on the stairway to the sanctuary from the quad.
If you would like to join the Health Ministry Team we would love to have you.

Paraclete Training

Are you a supervisor at work and required to give direction?

Do you have a heart for helping people?
Do people come to you for a listening ear?
Then you are doing the work of a Paraclete!

A Paraclete is a person who has been trained in listening skills, empathy, and can systematically help people solve their problems, whatever those problems may be.

Paraclete training, led by Toni Horvath, L.M.F.T. includes:

• Attending and listening skills
• Empathy and probing skills
• Helping people to tell their story
• Helping people to gain leverage and clarity
• Challenging people to gain a new perspective
• Learning the skill of challenging
• How to create new scenarios and set goals
• Helping people develop strategies for action and to implement them

After the training you will have the privilege to come along side someone to help them work out life problems they are facing. Applications are accepted year round. Interviews are conducted when there are sufficient applications for a new class. Generally, training is conducted every other year.
